Forever No More

Home > Poetry > This poem

Love has come, and love has gone

Quicker than I can say hello,

Loud and rushed in the form of a boy,

Or in a friendship quiet and mellow.

I’ve come to see and now accept

That permanence isn’t for all

You pay a price when you wish for forever

Can’t hold onto something meant to fall.

No more yesses to people or places

That aren’t driven by self-love,

No more clinging to the hope they’ll stay

When I have myself through it all.

I’m letting my gut guide me now

Accepting the universe’s path for me,

If it’s people from afar who feel like home

Or new life in a city that feels surreal.

Nearly 30 now, I’ve come to learn

That you can only plan so much,

The rest is hard work, and a little faith

And knowing when to give in or give up.
