The Hardest Thing

Home > Poetry > This poem

So easy it was to allow myself to let you all the way in

When you got bored, and didn’t think I’d know

Right then, it was the hardest thing.

Your jaded self those times we met, my presence like a sin

Tell me now, was I just too much for you?

Not knowing is the hardest thing.

I say I can’t, that I deserve better, and then it is the end

But we both know, how relieved you were

For me, goodbye was the hardest thing.

We meet on the train a few years later, your heart swiftly sinks

My smile is now a beacon of peace

For you, hello is the hardest thing.
