Don’t

Home > Poetry > This poem

Don’t call my bluff, I beg of you

Just pretend that you don’t see

The way my eyes softly smile

The way I never want to leave

Don’t tell me that you’ll stay up

To talk to me through the night

Don’t say that I fill all your cups

In ways that make this feel so right

Don’t make me hope for a dream

I have never had but recognize

The way my soul syncs with yours

The way you make me come alive

Don’t think I’ll stumble on another

Who sparks wildfires in my heart

Help me see I’m not the only one

Who’s left bereft when we depart

But most of all, don’t make me feel

Like no one else even compares

Don’t want to try if it’s not you

Make me yours and never share
