Past Picture

Through narrow cracks in the wall I see

A past picture of you and me

An incandescent smile across your face

Undisturbed, preserved in my glass case

Your mysterious look, my susurration

Our little game of interpretation

Your calming presence, reassuring me

That maybe not always, but today we’ll be

Our innocent dalliance makes me smile

Leave I must, but stay a while

As I look back now, I rue the day

When I let my heart over my head sway

Through narrow cracks in the wall I see

A past picture of you and me

I pray this picture soon to fade

For you and I are not to be
