Tale as old as time

Home > Poetry > This poem

How do you sleep by yourself tonight

knowing full well that I’m not there?

Please show me how to do it right,

to feign belief that I don’t care.

Guess it’s true I’m not fooling them,

not least of all people, you

Maybe the falsest thing I’ve ever done

is think that any of this is new.

For it feels a tale as old as time,

me and you entwined before we met

So I’ll do what I’ve always done,

and hope you smile with no regret.
